Indian Railway Train Reservation Chart
Ministry of Railway announced that the Railways have decided to discontinue the pasting of Passenger Reservation Charts on reserved coaches of train at all A1, A and B category stations from 1st March 2018. This decision has been taken as a pilot project for a period of six months. Following are the details regarding Train reservation chart, digital reservation charts etc.
Train Reservation Chart preparation time
First reservation chart would be prepared 04 hours prior to the departure of a train while the second and final one, 30 minutes before the train departs. According to the revised rules, the booking will be allowed on the internet as well as at reservation counters for a particular train, subject to availability of berths, even after the preparation of the first reservation chart.
For early morning trains chart is prepared the night before. A second and final chart of reservations will be made available before departure of the train and handed over to onboard ticket checking staff.
Second Reservation Charts Restored ~ 10.10.2020
Second Reservation Charts to be issued 30 minutes before the scheduled train departure time, as was done before the lockdown. Ticket booking facility, both online and on PRS ticket counters, shall be available, before preparation of the second chart.
Indian Railways has decided to restore the earlier system of preparation of second reservation charts w.e.f. 10.10.2020, Railway announce via press release. As per established pre COVID period instructions, the first reservation chart was prepared at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. Thereafter, the available accommodation could be booked across PRS counters as well as through internet on the first-come-first-serve basis till preparation of second reservation charts.
Second reservation charts were prepared between 30 minutes to 5 minutes before scheduled/rescheduled time of departure of trains. Cancellation of already booked tickets was also permitted during this period as per provisions of Refund Rules.
Due to pandemic, instructions were issued to shift the time of preparation of the second reservation chart to 2 hours before scheduled/ rescheduled time of departure of trains.
As per the request of Zonal Railways for ensuring convenience of rail passengers, the matter has been examined and it has been decided that the second reservation chart shall be prepared at least 30 minutes before scheduled/rescheduled time of departure of the train.
Accordingly, ticket booking facility, both online and on PRS ticket counters, shall be available, before preparation of second chart.
How to find Train Reservation Chart
Despite discontinuation of pasting Reservation Charts, Physical/Digital Charts will however continue to be displayed at Platforms of the train. At those stations where electronic charts display plasma have been installed and the same are functioning properly, physical reservation charts at such platforms can be stopped The objective of withdrawing and discontinuing of pasting Reservation Charts on Reserved Coaches of the train is to save paper and environment.
Passengers may get the train reservation chart status of their tickets in the following manners:-
- Tickets with confirmed status at the time of booking have information printed on the ticket itself.
- Wait listed and RAC passengers get their status updated on their registered mobile number through SMS at the time of charting which is 4 hours before the schedule departure of the train.
- Apart from the above, IVRS service through No. 139, online booking website are available for passengers for checking status of their tickets on real time basis.
There are presently 15 A1, A and B Category stations over South Eastern Railway and this system will be effective from 1st March, 2018. A1 Category stations are Kharagpur and Tatanagar, A Category stations are Shalimar, Digha, Balasore, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bokaro Steel City, Ranchi and Hatia and B Category stations are Adra, Bankura, Purulia, Midnapur and Chakradharpur.
Earlier, pasting of reservation charts on the reserved coaches of all trains was discontinued at New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mumbai Central, Chennai Central, Howrah and Sealdah Stations of Indian Railways on experimental basis for a period of 3 months.
The aim behind the move to go paperless is the green initiative by South Western Railways’ Bengaluru Division (SBC) which discontinued pasting charts on reserved coaches of all trains from Bengaluru City and Yeshwantpur stations from November 2016. The move helped save over Rs 60 lakh spent on paper by the division.
