Indian Railway announced that in view of COVID-19 situation, IRCTC Tejas Express Train No. 82501/82502 between LJN-NDLS-LJN and Train No. 82901/82902 between ADI-MMCT-ADI, stands cancelled for journey dates from 19-March-2020 to 31-March-2020. Full ticket fare will be refunded automatically, without any cancellation charges, to all the users/passengers having booked tickets for journey during the above period. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted. There is no need for cancellation of tickets by users.

Main Features of Tejas Express

As announced in the Railway Budget 2016-17 by the Railways Minister, Tejas along with other new luxury trains like Humsafar, Deen Dayalu Express, and Uday will look to bring world class facilities at an affordable price to the passengers of the world’s largest railway network. Tejas Express to be rolled out soon by Indian Railway. Let’s check why Tejas Express differ from other trains.

  • Tejas meaning brilliance, is a reserved passenger luxury train and it will operated at speed of 130 kmph and above.
  • Tejas Express is also called as golden Chariot, the trains coaches will be painted in a golden colour.
  • The train will have high-tech entertainment units, Wi-Fi facility and integrated braille displays, to give its passengers the feel of world-class travel.
  • Tejas coaches will have Executive Class and Chair Cars, while those of Hamsafar will have 3-AC.
  • Tejas coaches will be equipped with 22 new features, including entertainment screens for each passenger along with hand phone socket and LED boards for communicating safety instruction.
  • There will be water level indicatrs in bio-vacuum toilets, sensorised taps and hand driers.
  • Attempts have been made to provide state-of-art facilities in Tejas, including tea and coffee vending machines, magazines and snack tables, according to reports.

Tejas express are being readied in a way to give its passengers a premium travel experience usually associated with European rail travels. Tejas will have Executive Class and Chair Cars, while the Humsafar will be a train which will only have 3-AC coaches populating it. Besides the improved aesthetics, Tejas coaches will come with entertainment screens for each passenger, along with hand phone socket and LED boards for communicating safety instructions, digital destination boards, and electronic passenger reservation chart.

It will also bring with it water level indicators in bio-vacuum toilets, touch-sensitive taps, and hand driers. Both Tejas and Humsafar will also be equipped with CCTVs and fire and smoke detection and suppression systems to ensure passenger safety.  Tejas and Hamsafar trains, along with Antodaya Express and Deen Dayalu coaches, are to be introduced in the current fiscal as part of the budget proposal. Antodaya Express will be a fully unreserved train, while Deen Dayalu coaches will have improved facilities for general class passengers.

Details of New Updates of Tejas Express Trains are following.


Tejas Express, which runs between Chennai Egmore and Madurai had been provided with a ‘MAGICBOX’ which lets passengers access 500 hours worth of entertainment right from their mobiles.

This was done based o­n passenger feedback who felt a premium train like Tejas should offer entertainment to enhance the joy of travelling. Tejas coaches were initially provided with Seat mounted infotainment system which was removed after complains from travellers about its frequent malfunctioning o­n the run and a railway board instruction to discontinue all seat mounted infotainment systems. Railway administration had faced problem in updating its software and content.

Wi-fi Entertainment box “MAGICBOX” is pre installed with movies, kids content, music and Government schemes. It has content in regional languages for the multilingual passengers of Indian Railways. Tejas Express which runs 6 days a week, except Thursday, is maintained by GSN Coaching Depot, Chennai.

Tejas Express gets New Locomotive

New locomotive color schemed to match rest of the train

The Mumbai – Goa Tejas Express which began operation in May, will be getting a new locomotive that has arrived from Southern Railway. The Locomotive will be designed and specially run for Tejas Express from Monday, a famous Newspaper reported.

According to Central Railway officials, the locomotive will be painted in the existing colour theme. “The locomotive arrived in the city on June 15. We have been working on it give it the best look possible to attract passengers. We have tried to design the loco with a team from the workshop to match the rest of the train’s body. The work will be completed by Sunday afternoon,” an official said.

The workshop has been busy with the maintenance trials and checks for running on the track with and without load. Usually, locomotive are multi – purpose as they can be attached to any train which fits the criteria in case of emergencies like accidents or engine failure.

At present, the Tejas is pulled by a blue – coloured locomotive, commonly used in other trains as well. The train runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays during the rainy season between June 10 and October 31st.

Konkan Railway announced on 15th March 2018 that Railway has been decided to provide additional stoppage to Train Nos.22119 / 22120 Mumbai CSMT – Karmali – Mumbai CSMT Tejas Express (Five days a week) at Chiplun station w.e.f. 20/03/2018. The details are as follows :

Konkan Railway announced that from December 2018 the timings of Train No. 22119 / 22120 Mumbai CSMT – Karmali – Mumbai CSMT Tejas Express (5 days a week) was revised on trial basis for a period from 02/12/2018 to 02/01/2019. Central Railway announced that Railways will introduce the High speed, Air-Conditioned Tejas Express between CST Mumbai and Karmali for the first time on Indian Railways. Tejas Express is a state of the art train capable of running at the speed of 200 kmph with ultra modern amenities like on board infotainment, Wi-Fi, CCTV, Fire and Smoke detection facilities, between Mumbai and Karmali (5 days a week during Non-monsoon period and 3 days a week during Monsoon period).

Central Railway announced the Timing including Monsoon and Non monsoon timings, Reservation, Catering, Reservation, Halts and other details. Following are the details.

Inaugural Service Details:-

  • Train no.02119 will be flagged off from CST Mumbai on 22.5.2017 at 15.25 hrs and will arrive Karmali at 00.35 hrs next day halting at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri and Kudal.

Regular Service Details:-

CST Mumbai – Karmali Tejas Super Fast Express (Non-monsoon Period- 5 days a week)

  • Train No.22119 Super fast Tejas Express will leave CST Mumbai at 05.00 hrs on every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday  from 24.5.2017 and arrive Karmali at 13.30 hrs same day.

In case the passenger wishes to opt for onboard catering services, service – wise catering charges i.e. Executive class and Chair car on Tejas Trains shall be inbuilt in the ticket fare. If passenger do not opt for catering services at the time of booking the ticket and decides to purchase meals onboard, an extra amount of Rs 50/- per service, in addition to the prescribed catering charges shall be charged subject to availability. However a charge of Rs 20/- will be included in the fare for all passengers of all classes, since packaged drinking water and newspapers will be provided on board to every passenger irrespective of their option for onboard meals.

Tejas Express is have One executive class AC chair car with 56 seats and 09 AC chair car coaches with a capacity of 78 passengers in each coach. Tejas Express can carry a total of 758 passengers on board. They will also be allowed to use the executive lounge of the New Delhi Railway Station. Tejas Express Catering Charges 2019 – 2020

Maiden Run of Tejas Goa Train Details

Railway Minster Suresh Prabhu is likely to flag off the inaugural run of the Mumbai – Karmali Tejas Express, a train with state of the art facilities on Monday, a famous Newspaper reported. 20 coach Goa – bound train would start from CST.

Tejas train would be the first in the history of the Indian Railways to have automatic doors and secured gangways. The train is likely have a Shatabdi class fare structure. The train is likely to run five days a week, it is expected that the train would take less than 11 hours to cover the distance between the city and Karmali. Besides the choicest cuisine curated by celebrity chefs, there will be Wi-Fi facilities.

An announcement made by the Central Railway in October 2016 said the train was expected to depart from CST at 12.20 am and arrive at CST at 11.45 pm. The final time table is yet to be approved and it is possible that the train schedule might change. En route, the train may have halts at Thane, Panvel, Chiplum, Ratnagiri, Kudal and Thivim.

The train will also have water level indicators in bio-vacuum toilets, sensorised taps, hand driers and toilet engagement boards. The interior colour scheme of the train will match the exterior.

There will be LCD screens meant for entertainment purposes which will also be used for disseminating passenger related information and safety instructions. Many other facilities such as tea and coffee vending machines and magazines are expected to be available on board.

Indian Railway’s Tejas train is on track. A famous News paper reported that Chandigarh  – New Delhi Non-Stop Tejas is on Track. Following are the details.

Although coaches are being manufactured, a new New Delhi – Chandigarh train, the Tejas Express, that will not halt even once during the 266 km journey is on Railway’s time table. the train will take 3 hours 5 minutes. Ambala division railways manager Dinesh Kumar said date of introduction of the train had not been finalized.

Schedule of Tejas Express

  • Train No.22425 New Delhi – Chandigarh train will depart from New Delhi at 09.30 am and will arrive Chandigarh at 12.25 pm.
  • Train No.22426 Chandigarh – New Delhi train will depart from Chandigarh at 02.35 pm and will reach New Delhi at 05.30 pm.

Additional Facilities:- The Tejas train which was announced in the Union Budget earlier this year, will give passengers, high-tech entertainment units, wi-fi internet and other facilities on-board. The train will run all six days a week except Wednesday. Nine Chair car coaches. One Executive chair car coaches. Two regenerative van Coach. Tejas train will contain Twelve coaches.

Train Fare :- Train fare has not been finalized. Additional facilities like Wi-Fi had been added to the train and it was faster than the Shatabdi, the fare will be higher, the official added.
