Indian Railway published Revised Items, Menu, Quantity and Rates of breakfast , meals etc supplied by railway in Mail/Express trains, Duronto / Rajdhani / Shatabdi Express trains, Gatiman, Tejas Trains, Vande Bharat Express Trains etc in its official website for controlling the illegal practice of over charging the food items. Following are the details of IRCTC latest food menu, rates and tariff in trains and at Stations including Refreshment Rooms, Jan Ahaars etc.

IRCTC FOOD MENU RATES  

Revised Menu and Tariff of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/ Duronto/ Mail Express Trains/ Gatiman/ Tejas/ Vande Bharat Express/At stations and platform/ Standard Meals on Indian Railways (14.11.2019)

Revision in Menu and Tariff of catering services on Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto and Standard Meals on Indian Railways. (Railway published via Circular dt. 14.11.2019)

Indian Railway revised Menu and Tariff of pre-paid Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains and standard meals/food items that are provided to passengers of Mail/Express trains, following are the details.

The tariff of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains has been revised after 6 years since the last revision in 2013 while the tariff of standard meals for Mail/Express trains after 7 years since the last revision in 2012.

Catering services in trains over Indian Railways are provided by IRCTC and have two categories

  • Pre-paid Catering Services like Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto Trains where catering charges are included in the ticket fare (on opt-in basis) . Optional Catering services shall be provided to passengers of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto Express and other similar trains.
  • Post –paid Catering Services like on other Mail/Express where standard meals and other food items are made available on sale.

Main Features:-

Salient features for Mail/Express trains include :

  • Janta Meal : The rate of Janta Meal has been kept unchanged at Rs.20/-
  • No a-la-carte meals : To prevent overcharging in the name of a-la-carte meals, it has now been decided that no a-la-carte meals shall be permitted for sale on Mail/Express trains. However a la carte snacks items like samosa, pakoda, etc. will be permitted for sale.
  • Snack Meal : Now more regional food variety will also be available for the passengers. ‘Snack Meal’ with regional items/cuisine/flavour’ is being introduced at the rate of Rs. 50/- as a meal variety. This would be of 350 grams portion and the menu will be decided by IRCTC.
  • Biryani as a Meal : It has been decided to offer Biryani as a standard meal variety in view of its popularity. IRCTC shall make available three types of Biryani (Veg., Egg and Chicken) at the rate of Rs. 80/-, 90/- & 110/-
  • Chicken Curry Introduced : It has also been decided to introduce Chicken Curry as an option in standard non-veg. meal in addition to the existing standard non-veg meal with egg curry and standard veg. meal. As such, there shall be three categories of standard meals viz., Standard Vegetarian Meal, Standard Non-Vegetarian Meal (with 2 Eggs curry) and Standard Non-Vegetarian Meal (with Chicken Curry) against the existing two.

Steps taken by IRCTC for Hygiene Food Supply

The emphasis is on improving the quality and hygiene of food and overall services on Indian Railways. Revision in Catering Charges will be applicable only for those passengers who opt for catering services in trainsIndian Railways is committed to serve good quality of food. With the above rationalization the quality and variety of services are expected to further improve. To ensure quality of service, IRCTC is already taking following steps:-

  • Production and supply of meals on trains shall be progressively done from IRCTC managed Kitchens.
  • To maintain real time monitoring of food production and hygiene in kitchens, CCTVs have been installed in IRCTC kitchens with live streaming facility on Rail Drishti and the IRCTC website.
  • Stringent quality parameters including supply of branded products in hygienic condition and of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) standards.
  • Mandatory external audit (Third Party Audit) by reputed and independent agency to undertake audit of quality of services periodically.
  • IRCTC shall progressively introduce good quality biodegradable packaging material and QR coding of its meals.
  • The impact on the total ticket fares of the pre-paid trains will be an increase in the range of 3% to 9% for passengers who opt for meals.
  • Affordability, ensuring availability of regional cuisine and variety in standard meals to passengers have been taken care of.

The revised catering tariff shall be effective from 29/03/2020 on Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains and with immediate effect on other Mail/Express train.The revised Menu and Tariff of pre-paid Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains shall be applicable after a period of 15 days for train wise calculation.

Optional Catering services shall be provided to passengers of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto Express and other similar trains.

Biryani as a Standard Meal Variety

It has been decided to offer Biryani as a standard meal variety in view of its popularity. The tariff and weight of Biryani shall be as under:-

Snack Meal

Railway also decided to introduce ‘Snack Meal’ with regional items/cuisine/flavour as a meal variety. The ‘Snack Meal’ shall be of 350 grams portion and shall be made available at the tariff of Rs. 50/- (Inclusive of GST). The menu and accompaniments/side dishes (like Raita/pickle/salad/papad, if any) of the ‘Snack Meal’ shall be decided and notified by IRCTC.

For the newly introduced standard items, IRCTC shall decided the components of the Menu of the standard meals (items) within the above fixed notified tariff. IRCTC shall be accountable for providing the newly introduced menu options in a way that the quality and quality are commensurate with the tariff and no under benefit is passed on to the service provider.

No a-la-carte meals shall be permitted for sale on Mail/Express trains. But a-la-carte snacks items like samosa, pakoda, etc may continue.

Janta Meal

For passengers of Mail/Express trains, the present cost of Janta Meal (consisting of 7 Pooris- 175 g, Dry Aloo Curry – 150 g, with pickle)i.e Rs. 20/- shall remain unchanged and IRCTC shall also continue to make available Janta Meal for sale on trains.

How to Register or File IRCTC Catering Complaint?

There are mainly 3 ways we can file Catering complaints to Indian Railways

Toll Free Number

Indian Railways announced new Customer care toll-free numbers, passengers can make a call to 1800-111-321 or passengers can sent SMS to 9717630982 to lodge complaints about food quality ,over charging or any other issues related to Railways food service. 

I know most them searching for a number like that. Hope railways provide good service to all of them. This service operating from 7 AM to 10 PM on weekdays. Railways also announced that will act immediately about the complains and if justified contract of Caterer will be terminated too.

You Can also register your complaints via official IRCTC website also. This service provided on irctc.com website. 

Complains Register via Rail Madad App by Railway

Rail Madad (Mobile Application for Desired Assistance During travel) App to lodge any complaint or Suggestion relating only to ‘Train’ or ‘Station’ via online.

Complaint Books

Complaints can also be registered in complaint books available with the party car manager, the train superintendent and the guard. 


NEW CATERING POLICY 2017 BY IRCTC

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched New Catering Policy 2017 on 27.02.2107 along with New partnership in Parcel Business with Department of Post. 

Mobile Units and Base Kitchens

IRCTC shall manage catering service on all mobile units including catering services on all new trains/ trains started on short notice.   1. I am travelling currently in 12130 howra Pune superfast express. I have taken lunch non veg and they charge me 150rs as per price list the charges is 55 rs . Please take a action my seat number is B1,6 in third AC.

  2. Guys no one will take action on them. Even government not consider our comments to take action on them. I am traveling dadar to sangameshwar in 10103 mandavi express the irctc catering staff overcharging on all the products. They don’t have menu card or price list and they don’t want to show it.

  3. मेरा एक सुझाब है irctc के लिए जिससे cutomer ओवर चार्जिंग से बच सकते है
    IRCTC कस्टमर से ऑनलाइन टिकट बुकिंग के समय ही लंच और डिनर या ब्रेकफास्ट का पैसा चार्ज कर ले और लंच ब्रेकफास्ट और डिनर के लिए OTP टिकट के साथ जारी कर दे या फिर फ़ोन या मेल पर भेज दे
    अब ट्रैन के कैटरिंग डिपार्टमेंट को रिजर्वेशन चार्ट की तरह ही एक चार्ट जारी करे
    अब कैटरिंग डिपार्टमेंट उस लिस्ट के हिसाब से कन्फर्म टिकट वालों को लंच डिनर और बरेअक फ़ास्ट सर्व करें और बदले में उन कस्टमर से OTP या पासवर्ड ले ले और उसे अपने चार्ट में दर्ज कराते जाएं
    चार्ट में दर्ज OTP या पासवर्ड वेरीफाई होने पर IRCTC उन्हें पेमेंट कर दे
    इसमे कोई ओवर चार्जिंग का सवाल ही नही है
    सुझाव अच्छा लगे तो इसे अमल में लाएं

    Travelling dhanbad to delhi in 12329 west bengal sampark kranti express on 13/8/2019.
    Vendor are charging rupees 30 per two samosas from all over train. As per irctc rate they have to charge rs 20 for two nos. How much they looted from whole train you can calculate. When i complain panatry manager mr sanjay and mr anuj tomer becoming voilent rude and giving life threat to me. They are saying sale tere jaise bahut dekhey hain. Zyada bolega ya vedio banayega to train se fek dunga. Or gandi gandi galiyan bhi dene lagey. Which i cannot mention here. Modi ji or his rail minister no one for us. Who can help us and prevent us from loot….
