Fairy Queen Train / Steam Express
Fairy Queen Train is the the oldest surviving functional steam engine in the world. It runs between New Delhi and Rewari in Rajasthan. Now this is in Heritage Train category of Indian Railway.
History
The Fairy Queen is the oldest working Steam Locomotive in the world. It was built in 1855 and in 1996 it was completely over hauled by ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in Perumbur. In 1997, it resumed its commercial operation for a 2 Days/1 Nights tourist circuit from Delhi to Alwar as Fairy Queen Train Tour and got certified as the world’s oldest working locomotive by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998.
Fairy Queen has a total of two coaches where one is an air-conditioned car with a capacity of accommodating 60 people. This coach is specially designed and the seats also have the capacity of reclining so that the journey is comfortable. Along with this, there is a well-kept pantry car for the purpose of catering. Moreover, a trip in Fairy Queen, unlike the other luxury trains like the Palace on Wheels and Royal Orient, is of short duration. That means, if we have limited time, then also we can enjoy a Fairy Queen ride with less cost.
