CHENNAI SUBURBAN New TRAIN TIME TABLE 2022

Chennai ✅ suburban sector has 1,000 services, including 250 in the Beach–Tambaram section, 240 services in the Chennai Central–Arakkonam section, and 90 in the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi. Chennai has four suburban railway lines, namely, the North line, the West line, the South line, and the MRTS line. The Chennai Suburban is having 150 stations.

Avadi And Ennore : Introduction Of New Workmen Special ~ 07.09.2021

Train No 43862 – Avadi – Ennore Workmen special will leave Avadi at 05:00 hrs daily (except Sundays) and operated via Vyasarpadi Jiva, Korukkupet stations and will arrive Ennore at 06:20 hrs.

Additional Workmen Specials to be Operated on Sundays in Chennai Suburban area w.e.f 22.08.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to cater the crowds travelling by Workmen Specials and to maintain social distancing, the Workmen Special time schedule has been modified with additional 20 services on Sundays in Chennai Central – Arakkonam section. This revised time schedule comes into force with effect from 22.08.2021 (Sunday) to ‘until further advice’. The changes in the pattern of Workmen Special services are as follows:

Additional Workmen Specials to be Operated on Weekdays and Sundays in Chennai Suburban area w.e.f 13.08.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to cater to crowds traveling by Workmen Specials and to maintain social distancing, the Workmen Special time schedule has been modified with additional 26 services (on weekdays) and 20 services (on Sundays) in the MRTS section. This revised time schedule comes into force with effect from 13.08.2021 (Friday) to ‘until further advice’. The changes in the pattern of Workmen Special services are as follows:

ADDITIONAL WORKMEN SPECIAL SERVICES TO BE OPERATED IN MRTS SECTION DURING WEEKDAYS (MONDAY TO SATURDAY) W.E.F 13.08.2021

  • Chennai Beach – Velachery = 70 services (earlier 57 services)
  • Velachery – Chennai Beach = 70 services (earlier 57 services)

With the introduction of additional Workmen Specials in MRTS section, a Total of 656 services (earlier 630 services) will be operated in Chennai Suburban areas during weekdays (Monday to Saturday) w.e.f. 13.08.2021 ‘until further advice’.

ADDITIONAL WORKMEN, SPECIAL SERVICES TO BE OPERATED IN MRTS SECTION DURING SUNDAYS W.E.F 15.08.2021

  • Chennai Beach – Velachery = 48 services (earlier 38 services)
  • Velachery – Chennai Beach = 48 services (earlier 38 services)

With the introduction of additional Workmen Specials in MRTS section, a Total of 471 services (earlier 451 services) will be operated in Chennai Suburban areas during Sundays w.e.f. 15.08.2021 ‘until further advice’.

Note: Due to operational reasons, the nomenclature of Train numbers are provided with 5 digit train numbers for all the directions and will continue to be operated as Workmen Specials only. Introduction of Additional Workmen Specials in Chennai Area w.e.f 02.08.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to facilitate the movement of essential services staff, two pairs of additional Workmen Specials (Train No. GC2 / CG1 & GT2 / TG1) are being re-introduced between Gummidipundi – Tambaram – Chengalpattu stations with effect from 02.08.2021.

  • Train No.GC2, Gummidipundi – Chengalpattu Workmen Special will leave Gummidipundi at 06:00 hrs daily (except on Saturdays & Sundays) via Chennai Beach, Tambaram and will reach Chengalpattu at 09:45 hrs.
  • Train No.CG1, Chengalpattu – Gummidipundi Workmen Special will leave Chengalpattu at 10:30 hrs daily (except on Saturdays & Sundays) via Tambaram, Chennai Beach and will reach Gummidipundi at 13:45 hrs.
  • Train No.GT2, Gummidipundi – Tambaram Workmen Special will leave Gummidipundi at 14:30 hrs daily (except on Saturdays & Sundays) via Chennai Beach and will reach Tambaram at 17:05 hrs.
  • Train No.TG1, Tambaram – Gummidipundi Workmen Special will leave Tambaram at 17:58 hrs daily (except on Saturdays & Sundays) via Chennai Beach and will reach Gummidipundi at 20:50 hrs.

Introduction of Additional Workmen Specials (26 Services) On Sundays In MRTS Section w.e.f 04.07.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to facilitate the movement of essential services staff and cater crowd traveling during Sundays, 13 pairs of additional Workmen Specials are being introduced between Chennai Beach and Velachery stations (MRTS) with effect from 04.07.2021 to ‘until further advice’.

  • Earlier, 25 pairs (50 services) of Workmen Specials were operated in Chennai Beach – Velachery , MRTS section. In addition to the existing services, 13 pairs (26 services) of additional Workmen Specials have been included in the revised schedule of train
  • services in MRTS section.
  • Moreover, 1 pair of Additional Workmen Special has already been introduced between Chennai Beach and Arakkonam stations to run on all days including Sundays. w.e.f 01.07.2021 (Press release No.PUB/MAS/2021/06/20 dt 29.06.2021)
  • With the above, a total of 447 train services will be operated in Chennai Suburban areas on Sundays w.e.f 04.07.2021

Introduction of Additional Workmen Specials w.e.f 01.07.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to facilitate the movement of essential services staff, one pair of additional Workmen Special ( Train No. BA1 & AB2) is being introduced between Chennai Beach and Arakkonam stations with effect from 01.07.2021 to ‘until further advice’.

  • Train No. BA1 will leave Chennai Beach at 01:20 hrs (daily) and will be operated as Fast local in fast line with stoppages at Perambur, Villivakkam, Ambattur, Putlur, Tiruvallur, Kadambattur, Manavur, Tiruvalangadu, Mosur, Puliyamangalam and Arakkonam stations and reach Arakkonam junction at 02:50 hrs.
  • Train No. AB2 will leave Arakkonam junction at 04:00 hrs (daily) and will be operated as a full slow local from Arakkonam with stoppages at all intermediate stations between Arakkonam and Chennai Beach and reach Chennai Beach at 06:00 hrs.

Revised Schedule of Chennai Workmen Specials with 419 Services on Sundays ~ 27.06.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to facilitate the movement of essential services staff and to cater to crowds traveling by Workmen Specials during Sundays has been modified with additional services in all routes in Chennai Suburban area. The revised schedule of Workmen specials operated during Sundays comes into force with effect from 27.06.2021 to ‘until further advice’. The changes in the pattern of Workmen Specials are as follows:

  • Chennai Central – Arakkonam section = 149 services
  • Chennai Central – Gummidipoondi section = 66 services
  • Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu section = 138 services
  • Chennai Beach – Velachery MRTS section = 50 services

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, WORKMEN SPECIALS WILL BE OPERATED AS SHUTTLE SERVICES BETWEEN AVADI/PATTABIRAM – PATTABIRAM MILITARY SIDING “E” DEPOT ON SUNDAYS W.E.F 27.06.2021

  • Avadi/Pattabiram – Pattabiram Military siding ‘E’ Depot = 16 services
  • A total of 419 services (98 services earlier) will be operated on Sundays w.e.f 27.06.2021.

Workmen Specials in Chennai Suburban Area Increased to 630 Services ~ 25.06.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to cater to crowds traveling by Workmen Specials and to maintain social distancing, the Workmen Special time schedule has been modified with additional 152 services (earlier 478 services) in all the routes in the Chennai Suburban area. This revised time schedule comes into force with effect from 25.06.2021 (Friday) to ‘until further advice’. The changes in the pattern of Workmen Special services are as follows:

Southern Railway announced that in view of the complete lockdown and restrictions imposed by the Government of Tamil Nadu to contain the surge in Covid-19 pandemic, a modified timetable is being issued for Workmen Specials operated in the Chennai area and will come into force with effect from 10.05.2021 (Monday) to ‘until further advice’. The changes in the pattern of Workmen Special services are as follows:

  • Chennai Central – Arakkonam Sections = (49 Pairs) of services

  • Chennai Beach – Velachery Sections = (20 Pairs) of services
  • Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu/ Tirumalpur Sections = (44 Pairs) of services
  • Shuttle Service Avadi – Pattabiram – Pattabiram E-Depot = (6 Pairs) of Services

A Total of 288 services will be operated during week days (Monday to Saturday). No changes in pattern of revised Workmen special services on Sundays.

The permitted category in the above mentioned Workmen Specials are as follows:

Permitted Categories:

  • Staff of all Central and State Government departments and PSUs, Staff of Madras High Court judicial bodies and quasi-judicial bodies including lawyers, travel and logistics organization staff including Chennai Port Trust, Kamarajar Port Trust, staff of e-commerce companies on duty, staff of print and electronic media, staff of nationalized, private and cooperative banks, and staff of private security agencies.
  • Passengers falling under these categories are requested to carry the photo identity card issued by their organization.

Categories not eligible to travel:

  • General public other than the above, including students and staff of educational institutions (which are closed during the above period) will not be permitted to travel during the entire above mentioned period.
  • General permission given for women passengers to travel throughout the day also stands cancelled except for those coming under the above categories.

Suburban train services are being operated during lockdown for the benefit of essential service employees as enumerated in TN G.O No.371 of 8.5.21 and only they are allowed to travel. Return tickets and renewal of season tickets are being issued for only these eligible passengers

Additional Workmen Special Trains From 26.04.2021

Southern Railway announced that in order to provide adequate services during high patronage timings, additional Workmen Special trains are being introduced in the new revised pattern which comes into force with effect from 26.04.2021(Monday). The changes in the pattern of Workmen Special services are as follows:

Southern Railway announced on 21.04.2021 that in view of the restrictions imposed by the Government of Tamil Nadu on weekdays and on Sundays to contain the surge in Covid-19 pandemic, a modified timetable is being issued for Workmen Specials operated in the Chennai area and will come into force with effect from 22.04.2021 (Thursday) for weekdays and from 25.04.2021 (Sunday) on Sundays to ‘until further advice’.
