Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) is the third largest Metro System in India. The fist one is Delhi Metro, and the second one is Hyderabad Metro. Chennai Metro is in Tamil Nadu. It is a rapid transit system. It is a joint venture of Indian Government and Tamil Nadu Government. It started it’s operation in 2015.

Rules for Travelling in Chennai Metro

Prohibition against carriage of dangerous and offensive material
No person shall take or cause to be taken on the metro railway any of the following dangerous materials, namely:-
- Explosive substances which possess risk of explosion or fire or both;
- Gases compressed, liquefied or dissolved under pressure;
- Petroleum and other inflammable liquids;
- Inflammable solids;
- Oxidizing substances;
- Poisonous (toxic) substances;
- Acids and other corrosives;
- Radioactive substances;
- Weapons, arms and ammunitions.
- Any Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Enhanced Conventional Weapons which
- possess risk to passengers or property.
No person shall take or cause to be taken on the metro railway any of the following offensive Materials, namely:-
- Blood dried or coagulated or decomposed, whether human or animal ;
- Corpses;
- Carcasses of dead animals or of dead birds;
- Bones excluding bleached and cleaned bones;
- Human skeleton;
- Parts of human body;
- Portable radio devices which possess risk to radio communication network and communication based traffic control signaling network;
No person shall take or cause to be taken on the metro railway live animals or birds: Provided that a security person on duty may take along sniffer dog for the purpose of security.

Now Chennai Metro Rail commuters can avail of electric bikes in Thirumangalam, Vadapalani and Alandur Metro Stations. The charges are Rs 3 per km and 10 paise per minute

- Bicycle shall be return with in 24hrs , if bicycle is not returned by the passengers with in 24hrs then an amount of Rs.50/- per day will be levied for subsequent days.
- In case of lost / theft of bicycle, the passenger will have to pay an amount of Rs.5000/-. By adjusting the deposit (Rs.3000/-), the balance amount Rs.2000/- should be pay
