Categories of Passengers are Permitted to Travel in Workman Special Chennai EMUs ~ 25.06.2021

Southern Railway announced that in view of the lockdown guidelines dated 20-06-2021 issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu, Southern Railway will allow the following categories of passengers to travel in the Chennai Suburban train system w.e.f 25-06-2021 (from 00:00 hours). The pattern of travel and type of tickets that will be issued to them is also juxtaposed below:

Male passengers permitted to travel during non-Peak Hours

The non-peak hours for this purpose are reckoned from the early hours of the day to 07:00 hours in the morning, 09:30 hrs to 16:30 hrs, and from 19:00 hrs to the closing hours of the day. They will be issued o­nly single journey tickets.

Southern Railway announced that in view of the relaxations in lockdown announced by the Govt of TamilNadu, the following categories of passengers are permitted to travel in workman special EMUS with effect from 25/06/2021. Changes in Pattern of Suburban Train Services

Southern Railway announced that according to priority to Passenger Safety and Safety of train operations, as a part of ongoing Engineering works, Line Block/Power Block is permitted in Chennai Central – Arakkonam section between Avadi and Pattabiram stations from 21:40 hrs of 20th June 2021 to 05:40 hrs of 21st June 2021 (8 Hours). Consequently, the following are the changes in the pattern of suburban train services.

Skipping Of Stoppages Of Suburban Train Services On 20th June 2021 (Sunday)

  • Train No. MA29 – Moore Market Complex – Arakkonam Workmen Special leaving Moore Market Complex at 21:30 hrs will be dealt in fast line between Avadi and Pattabiram, skipping stoppages at Hindu College and Pattabiram stations.
  • Train No. MT1 – Moore Market Complex – Tiruvallur Workmen Special leaving Moore Market Complex at 22:10 hrs will be dealt in fast line between Avadi and Pattabiram, skipping stoppages at Hindu College and Pattabiram stations.
  • Train No. AM30 – Arakkonam – Moore Market Complex Workmen Special leaving Arakkonam at 21:40 hrs will be dealt in fast line between Pattabiram and Avadi, skipping stoppages at Pattabiram and Hindu College stations.

Chennai Suburban Network: Students are Permitted to Travel ~ 15.02.2021

Southern Railway announced that in view of popular demand, Students will be permitted to travel in Chennai Suburban train services effective from 15.02.2021. Students, both male and female, will be allowed to travel throughout the day including peak hours in Chennai suburban trains.

Students are required to carry a valid photo identity card issued by their educational institutions and produce the same at ticket booking counters while purchasing tickets or passes. The ID card should also be produced along with a ticket/pass during the journey for verification by the Ticket examiner.

Chennai ~ UTS on mobile App for Unreserved Tickets Booking Facility Extended ~ 11.02.2021

Southern Railway announced that SR will be extending booking of unreserved tickets (except Season Tickets & Platform Tickets) through UTS o­n Mobile App with effect from 11-02-2021 in the suburban area of Chennai covered by EMU services (viz.. for all stations in Chennai Beach to Tirumalpur section, Chennai Central to Tiruttani section, Royapuram to Sulurpeta Section & Chennai Beach to Velachery Section).

UTS o­n Mobile App can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store. Tickets can be booked using UTS o­n Mobile App from anywhere within the periphery of 5kms from the station premises. In view of the o­ngoing pandemic of COVID issue of tickets will be restricted during peak hours (i.e from 06.30 hrs to 09.30 hrs & 16.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs. Passengers are encouraged to avail the services of UTS o­n Mobile app for unreserved tickets in order to avoid large queues at Stations. UTS o­n Mobile App provides multiple e-payment options for topping of Rail Wallet including payment of cash at counters and e-payment options through IRCTC website i.e. www.irctc.co.in. Railway offers a 5% bonus for all R-Wallet transactions i.e. if R-wallet recharge is done for Rs.100/-, tickets can be booked up to Rs. 105/-.

UTS MOBILE APP REINTRODUCED IN CHENNAI SUBURBAN ~ 01.02.2021

Indian Railway announced that Railways to reintroduce booking of unreserved tickets through UTS Mobile app in Chennai Suburban from 1st February. The service will be available in Chennai Suburban Terminus–Tiruvallur, Royapuram–Gummidipoondi, Chennai Beach–Chengalpattu & Chennai Beach–Velachery sections (MRTS)

In view of the ongoing Coivd pandemic, mobile ticketing facility will be available round the clock except for durian the hours from 06.30 hrs to 09.30 hrs and 16.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs. Also, Season tickets and platform tickets will not be issued through the Application for the time being. The journey should commence within one hour of booking the ticket through the mobile app.

UTS Mobile app can be download from Google Play Store and Apple Store. UTS on Mobile provides multiple e-payment options for topping up of Rail Wallet (R-Wallet). Recharge of R-Wallet can be done online through IRCTC website ( www.irctc.co.in) as well as at station ticket counters.

Exclusive counters for Mobile App recharge will be opened at Suburban Counters at Dr MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Chennai Beach, Mambalam, Tambaram, Perambur, Avadi, Tiruvattiyur, and Chennai Park Town and Velachery (MRTS) during non-peak hours based on the requirement.

For the time being the facility of UTS on Mobile App will be available only in Chennai Suburban area for travel in Suburban Services.

Benefits of UTS App are:

  • -> 5% Cash Bonus will be offered while recharging on UTS Mobile Application. For every Rs. 100 R-Wallet recharge, tickets can be booked up to Rs. 105
  • -> As for the geofencing aspect, tickets can be booked through the UTS Application in the range of 5 Kms to 30 meters radius of Suburban railway stations. Within 30 meters closer limit to Railway stations, UTS App bookings will not be possible.

REVISED SCHEDULE OF WORKMEN SPECIALS TO BE OPERATED IN CHENNAI SUBURBAN AREA DURING SUNDAYS AND ON ALL NATIONAL HOLIDAYS ~ 10.01.2021

Southern Railway announced that Chennai Division of Southern Railway has revised the schedule of Workmen specials to be operated in Chennai Suburban area during Sundays w.e.f.10.01.2021.

  • Chennai Central – Arakkonam section = 74 services
  • Arakkonam – Chennai Central section= 73 services
  • Chennai Central – Gummidipoondi section = 33 services
  • Gummidipoondi – Chennai Central section= 33 services
  • Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu section = 68 services
  • Chengalpattu – Chennai Beach section = 68 services
  • Chennai Beach – Velachery section = 26 services
  • Velachery – Chennai Beach section = 26 services

A total of 401 services are to be operated on Sundays and the same Sunday pattern of Workmen Specials will be followed on all National holidays.

MORE ADDITIONAL WORKMEN SPECIALS IN CHENNAI SUBURBAN AREA

Southern Railway announced on 26.12.2020 that from 28.12.2020 (Monday) onwards, 90 additional services of Workmen specials, to a total of 500 services are to be operated in all sections of Suburban Train Services In Chennai Area, Monday to Saturday, to cater extra crowd travelling in Workmen Specials.

CHENNAI SUBURBAN TRAIN: GENERAL PUBLIC CAN TRAVEL DURING NON-PEAK HOURS ~ 23.12.2020

Southern Railway announced that with effect from 23-12-2020, Southern Railway will permit General public to travel during non-peak hours in the Chennai suburban train system. The non-peak hours for this purpose are reckoned from the early hours of the day to 07:00 hours in the morning, 09:30 hrs to 16:30 hrs and from 19:00 hrs to the closing hours of the day. During these timings, the general public would be allowed to travel duly following all the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The intermittent timings will be considered as peak hours, i.e 07:00 hrs to 09:30, 16:30 hrs to 19:00 hrs. During these peak hours, as it was prevalent earlier, o­nly the employees engaged in the organisation rendering essential services shall be allowed to travel. It is reiterated that the General public will not be allowed during these peak hours.

Southern Railway has been running Suburban train services exclusively for the Railway employees as Workmen’s special in the Chennai region after the lockdown o­n account of the pandemic was put in place. With unlock guidelines being issued made from time to time, taking into account the prevailing pandemic situation, Southern Railway has also been making relaxation in the pattern of train services in the Suburban Sector in various phases.

  • In the Phase-I, Employees engaged in the organisations rendering essential services were permitted to travel.
  • In the Phase-II, Lady passengers were allowed to travel during the non-peak hours.
  • In the Phase-III, General public has been allowed to travel during the non-peak hours.

Southern Railway has been increasing the number of train services in view of these phased relaxations. At present, a number of train services run are 410 which is about 65% of normal train operations in the Chennai Suburban Sector.

CHENNAI SUBURBAN TRAIN: ‘NON-PEAK HOUR’ TIME LIMIT EXTENDED ~ 07.12.2020

Southern Railway has revised the Peak Hour/Non-Peak Hour limit for travel in Chennai Suburban services. Accordingly, effective from 07.12.2020 (Monday), the non-peak hours are reckoned from the early hours of the day to 07.00 hours in the morning, 09.30 hrs (earlier 10.00 hrs) to 16.30 hours and from 19.00 hours (earlier 19.30 hrs) to the closing hours of the day.

  • Lady passengers (who are not coming under the category of essential services staff) are already permitted to travel in Chennai Suburban trains during the non-peak hours stipulated above from Monday to Saturday.
    • Lady passengers (who are not coming under the category of essential services staff) should not commence their journeys at the boarding stations during the peak hours from 07.00 to 09.30 hrs and again from 16.30 to 19.00 hrs on all working days from Monday to Saturday.
  • On Sundays, lady passengers are permitted to travel throughout the day.
  • With the extension of the non-peak hours time limit, more lady passengers outside the category of staff engaged in essential services would be able to travel in the suburban service.
  • During the peak hours, there is no restriction of travel for passengers including lady passengers, engaged without organisations providing essential services.
  • Lady passengers are allowed to travel either using their Season tickets or on purchase of single journey tickets.
    • Single journey tickets can be purchased by lady passengers at the boarding stations before the commencement of non-peak hours as stipulated above.
  • Children up to the age of 12 years accompanying lady passengers are also permitted to travel during the stipulated non-peak hours.

Southern Railway has scaled up the no of suburban services in Chennai area from 244 to 320 trains per day from 07.12.2020 to cater the travel needs of essential services staff of both government and other organisations.

CHENNAI SUBURBAN TRAINS: SR PERMITS LADY PASSENGERS DURING NON-PEAK HOURS ~ 23.11.2020

Southern Railway has scaled up the no. of suburban services in Chennai area to 244 trains per day to cater to the travel needs of essential services staff of both government and other organisation. It is now decided to permit, from 23.11.2020 onwards, lady passengers (who are not coming under the category of essential services staff) to travel in Chennai Suburban trains during the non-peak hours from Monday to Saturday and to travel throughout the day on Sundays. The non-peak hours are reckoned from the early hours of the day to 07.00 hours in the morning, 10.00 to 16.30 hours and from 19.30 hours to the closing hours of the day. Lady passengers shall be permitted to commence their journeys at the boarding points during the non-peak hours as stipulated above. They are allowed to travel either using their Season tickets or on purchase of single journey tickets. Single journey tickets can be purchased by lady passengers at the boarding stations before the commencement of non-peak hours as stipulated above.

Children up to the age of 12 years accompanying lady passengers are also permitted to travel during non-peak hours. Lady passengers should not commence their journey at the boarding stations during the peak hours from 07.00 to 10.00 hrs and again from 16.30 to 19.30 hrs on all working days from Monday to Saturday.

As per the requirement of State government Passengers are requested to carry the details of PNR number of their ticket, Name, address and phone numbers written/printed o­n a white paper. These details should be furnished for all the passengers booked under each PNR and handed over to the officials nominated by Railway administration at the time boarding at the originating station.

CHENNAI : CIRCULAR TRAINS DETAILS

Operation Of Workmen Specials (Circular Trains) Between Chennai Beach – Chennai Beach W.E.F 04.02.2021 (Thursday)

  • Workmen Special (Train No. CT-1) – Daily service: Chennai Beach – Tambaram- Chengalpattu – Arakkonam – Tiruvallur – Chennai Beach
    • Train No. CT-1 will leave Chennai Beach at 09:20 hrs and reach Chennai Beach at 15:30 hrs with effect from 04th February 2021.
  • Workmen Special (Train No. CT-2) – Daily service: Chennai Beach – Tiruvallur – Arakkonam – Chengalpattu -Tambaram – Chennai Beach
    • Train No. CT-2 will leave Chennai Beach at 10:20 hrs and reach Chennai Beach at 16:35 hrs with effect from 04th February 2021.

The above mentioned Workmen Specials (Circular trains) will run on all days including Sundays.

Running of Circular Trains from Chennai to Chittoor

SEASON TICKETS DISTANCE REVISED: CHENNAI DIVISION

Southern Railway announced that as per extant rules, Season tickets are issued up to a maximum distance of 150 Km. Recently, Railway Board has delegated powers to General Managers of Zonal Railways to decide exemptions in the distance limit beyond 150 Km subject to maximum distance limit up to 160 Km for issue of Season Tickets over certain sections.

Acceding to the representations received from various Rail Passenger Associations, Season Ticket Users and rail users, General Manager, Southern Railway has accorded sanction to issue Season Tickets o­n the following routes in Chennai Division:

  • From Chennai Central to Melalathur via Arakkonam and Katpadi for a distance of 158.81 Km
  • From Chennai Egmore to Gudiyattam via Chennai Park – Chennai Central, Arakkonam & Katpadi for a distance of 155.36 Km.
  • Chennai Egmore to Gudiyattam via Chennai Park – Chennai Beach-Washermanpet, Arakkonam and Katpadi for a distance of 159.91 Km.

Season tickets can be availed from both ends in the above pairs of stations. UTS Mobile App Bookings are also facilitated for availing Season tickets in the above sections.

SPEEDING UP AND CHANGE IN TERMINALS / TIMINGS OF TRAINS

Central Railway announced that Railways have decided to speed up 11041/11042 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Chennai Central Express, 11027/11028 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Chennai Central Mail and 12163/12164 Dadar (T) – Chennai Egmore Express. Subsequent to speeding up of trains 11041/11042 and 11027/11028 will be classified as Superfast with a change in number. There will be a change in terminals of 12163/12164 and 11027/11028 with effect from 1.7.2020. Details are as under:

  • 11044 Madurai – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Weekly Express will leave Madurai at 14.45 hrs (instead of 18.00 hrs) w.e.f. 4.7.2020 and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 23.45 hrs next day (instead of 05.45 hrs on third day).
  • 16382 Kanyakumari – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Express will arrive/depart Wadi at 14.55/15.00 hrs (instead of 17.35/17.40 hrs existing) and arrive Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 03.40 hrs (instead of 04.40 hrs)
  • 17031 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Hyderabad Express will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 14.00 hrs (instead of 12.45 hrs) and arrive Hyderabad at 05.55 hrs.

CHANGES IN CHENNAI SUBURBAN TRAIN SERVICES WITH EFFECT FROM 10TH JULY 2019

Souther Railway announced that due to operational reasons the following changes will be made in the Chennai Suburban Train Services o­n and from 10th July 2019

CHANGES IN DEPARTURE TIMINGS
  • Train No.43439 Moore Market Complex – Arakkonam EMU leaving Moore Market Complex at 21.15 is now renumbered as Train No.43437 and the revised departure time at Moore Market Complex will be 22.05 hrs and it will reach Arakkonam at 00.25 hrs
  • Train No.43025 Moore Market Complex – Avadi EMU leaving Moore Market Complex at 22.00 is now renumbered as Train No.43023 and the revised departure time at Moore Market Complex will be 22.20 hrs and will reach Avadi at 23.10 hrs.
  • Train No.43556 Tiruttani – Arakkonam EMU leaving Tiruttani at 23.00 is now renumbered as Train No.43554 and the revised departure time at Tiruttani will be 23.15 hrs and will reach Arakkonam at 23.35 hrs
  • Train No.42009 Moore Market Complex – Gummidipoondi EMU leaving Moore Market Complex at 08.15 and reaching Gummidipoondi at 09.35 hrs will now reach Gummidipoondi at the revised arrival time of 09.50 hrs.
  • Train No.42018 Gummidipoondi – Moore Market Complex EMU leaving Gummidipoondi at 09.50 hrs to reach Moore Market Complex at 11.20 hrs is renumbered as Train No.42016 and will leave Gummidipoondi at 10.00 hrs to reach Moore Market Complex at 11.25 hrs.

PARTIAL RESTORATION OF FAST LOCALS

Running of EMU Fast Local trains which were temporarily suspended in Chennai Beach – Tambaram section from 24thJuly 2018 will be partially restored and re-introduced with effect from Saturday, 1st June 2019 as follows:-

  • Train No.40518 Chengalpet – Chennai Beach Semi Fast local will leave Chengalpet at 07.50 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 09.15 hrs
  • Train No.40704 Tirumalpur – Chennai Beach Fast local will leave Tirumalpur at 07.05 hrs and leave Chengalpet at 08.10 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 09.30 hrs.
  • Train No.40520 Chengalpet – Chennai Beach Semi Fast local will leave Chengalpet at 08.05 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 09.47 hrs
  • Train No.40522 Chengalpet – Chennai Beach Semi Fast local will leave Chengalpet at 08.25 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 09.55 hrs
  • Train No.40526 Chengalpet – Chennai Beach Semi Fast local will leave Chengalpet at 08.50 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 10.20 hrs
  • Train No.40706** Arakkonam – Chennai Beach Fast local will leave Arakkonam at 07.30 hrs, leave Tirumalpur at 08.00 hrs and leave Chengalpet at 09.05 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 10.28 hrs.
  • Train No.40707** Chennai Beach – Arakkonam Fast local will leave Chennai Beach at 18.13 hrs and arrive Tirumalpur at 20.40 hrs and arrive Arakkonam at 21.15 hrs

All the above mentioned trains will have its old timings and stoppings.

CHANGES IN CHENNAI EGMORE – PONDICHERRY DAILY EXPRESS
  • Chennai Egmore – Pondicherry – Chennai Egmore Express which was extended to run from Chennai Beach in view of the cancellation of Fast locals earlier, will again be operated from Chennai Egmore o­n and from 1st June 2019. Henceforth, Train No.16116 Pondicherry – Chennai Egmore Express will arrive Chennai Egmore at 09.30 hrs and Train No.16115 Chennai Egmore – Pondicherry Express will leave Chennai Egmore at 18.10 hrs. The additional coaches and additional stopping provided temporarily for this train at Mambalam and Guindy will be withdrawn in both directions from 1st June 2019 o­nwards.
EXTENSION OF EMUs TO TIRUMALPUR AND ARAKKONAM

In addition to the two circular trains introduced from 23rd April 2019, o­ne EMU Train is extended to Tirumalpur and 3 EMU trains are extended to Arakkonam o­n and from 1st June 2019 as follows:-

  • Train No.40705 Chennai Beach – Tirumalpur is extended to Arakkonam and will leave Chennai Beach at 12.56 hrs and arrive Arakkonam at 16.20 hrs

  • Train No.66041 (CT1) Chennai Beach – Tiruvallur – Arakkonam – Chengalpattu – Chennai Beach will leave Arakkonam at 13.15 hrs and will arrive Chennai Beach at 16.33 hrs.
CANCELLATION OF EMU TRAINS

Train No.40902 Tirumalpur – Chengalpattu leaving Tirumalpur at 21.25 hrs is fully cancelled o­n and from 31st May 2019.
Train No.40901 Chengalpattu – Tirumalpur leaving Chengalpattu at 05.15 hrs is fully cancelled o­n and from 1st June 2019.

LHB RAKE FOR THIRUVANTHAPURAM CENTRAL – PURATCHI THALAIVAR DR.M.G. RAMACHANDRAN CENTRAL WEEKLY SUPER FAST EXPRESS

The coach composition of the service of Train No. 12698/12697 Thiruvanthapuram Central – Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.M.G. Ramachandran Central Weekly Express will be converted to LHB coaches as detailed below:

  • The service of Train No. 12698 Thiruvanthapuram Central – Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.M.G. Ramachandran Central Weekly Super Express (Day of Service – Saturdays) will be operated with LHB coaches from 20th July 2019(Saturday).
  • The service of Train No. 12697 Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway station -Thiruvanthapuram Central Weekly Express (Day of Service – Sundays) will be operated with LHB coaches from 21st July 2019(Sunday).

Existing Coach composition: AC 2-Tier Coach-1, AC-3 Tier Coaches-5, Sleeper Class Coaches-12, General Second Class Coaches-2, Pantry Car-1 and Luggage Cum Brake van Coaches-2.

Southern Railway announced that introduction of additional EMU special service between Chengalpattu – Chennai Beach to facilitate passengers bound for Kanchipuram for Shri Adhi Aththigiri Varadhar Dhrarshan. Southern Railway announced that Fast Local trains between Chennai Beach and Tambaram will be introduced with effect from Saturday, 1st June 2019. Four Fast Locals will be operated from Chengalpet to Chennai Beach and two fast locals will run Tirumalpur to Chennai Beach during morning peak hours. o­ne fast local will run from Chennai Beach to Tirumalpur during evening peak hour. Due to the introduction of fast local, Train No.16115/16116 which was operated from Chennai Beach will be operated from Chennai Egmore henceforth o­n and from 1st June 2019.

The timings of the fast locals are given below.

  • Train No.40518 Chengalpet – Chennai Beach Fast local will leave Chengalpet at 07.50 hrs and arrive Chennai Beach at 09.15 hrs
