Brindavan Express Trains was introduced in 1964. It was introduced as the first intercity express in the Southern Railways. At that time it had stops only at Katpadi Junction and Jolarpettai Junction covering the 360 kilometres (220 mi) in 5 hours. Later due to derailments of some trains the speed was reduced to take 5.5 hours in the 1980s. With increase in stops it has now come to 6 hours. The Train celebrated its Golden Jubilee run on 1 October 2014.

Train Nos.12639/12640 Brindavan Super fast Express is a train linking Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station (MAS) and Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru Station (SBC). It leaves Chennai Central at 07:50 and reaches Bangalore City railway station at 13:40 hours. In the reverse direction, it leaves Bangalore City railway station at 15:00 and reaches Chennai Central at 21:05 hours.

Train No. 12639/12640 Chennai Central – Bengaluru Junction – Chennai Central Brindavan Express will be Upgraded with Two Second Class Coaches with Sitting accommodation (Reserved)by duly replacing Two General Second Class Coaches from Chennai Central and from Bengaluru Junction with immediate effect. The Revised Composition is Second Class cum Luggage Brake Van – 1, Second Class cum Luggage Brake Van for Disabled – 1, Second Class Sitting(Reserved)-15, General Second Class- 7.
