Bharat Gaurav Trains – Theme based Tourist Circuit Trains

Bharat Gaurav Trains is Union Government initiative under “Dekho Apna Desh” to promote Domestic Tourism. Bharat Gaurav scheme also aims to leverage the core strengths of the professionals of the tourism sector to run theme-based trains to tap the vast tourist potential of India. Southern Railway becomes the first zone in Indian Railways to get the first registered service provider under the ‘Bharat Gaurav” Scheme and commence the operations of the maiden service from Coimbatore North to Sainagar Shirdi on 14.06.2022. Further details are attached.

Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, announced (on 23.11.2021) the introduction of theme-based tourist circuit trains Bharat Gaurav Trains. Speaking to the media in a press conference, he said that these trains will help realise the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and magnificent historical places to the people of India and the world. He further added that the core strength of the professionals of tourism sector would be leveraged to develop/identify tourist circuits and run theme- based trains to tap the vast tourism potential of India.

At present, IRCTC is already running several tourist circuit trains in Railways. With introduction of this policy, all tourist circuit trains w.e.f 01-04-2022 shall be operated as per the guidelines issued under this policy. This Bharat Gaurav scheme will now help in roping in of more tour operators with professional experience and will give boost to tourism sector in the country.

Till 17.03.2023, 26 trips of Bharat Gaurav Trains have been operated covering around 22 states and 04 Union Territories

IRCTC’s Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train has a mixed composition of Sleeper (Non AC), AC III tier and AC II tier coaches. The exterior of these trains showcase popular Indian monuments, sculptures, landmarks, and dance forms etc which are an integral part of the country’s pride. These trains have a total capacity of around 600 – 700 seats and are fitted with infotainment systematic and CCTV cameras in common areas along with unarmed security in each coach. The trains have a well equipped pantry car for preparing fresh meals onboard based on regional cuisines served at the respective passenger seats.Deluxe AC Tourist Train is a fully air-conditioned with only AC I and AC II tier accommodation onboard. The train has one dedicated modern kitchen car (flameless) and two rail restaurants giving it a very exclusive semi-luxury feel. It has been fitted with washrooms having shower cubicles, electronic safes in each cabin and common areas with single sofas with reading lights, foot massagers, shoe shiners, infotainment systematic and an in-house library. It also has security features like CCTV cameras in common areas with unarmed security deputed against each passenger coach. The total train capacity is 156 seats.Government of Karnataka (GoK) has taken initiative to offer pilgrimage and heritage tour of Kashi, Puri and Dwarka by running Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train in association with IRCTC. The fully air-conditioned tourist train has 11 AC III tier coaches to accommodate around 700 passengers onboard. The exterior of the train depicts prominent heritage and temples of the Karnataka state. The salient features of this train are a well equipped pantry car, security arrangements like CCTV cameras and unarmed security guards. The pricing has been kept affordable with the Government offering a subsidy to the pilgrims.

Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train : Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yatra

The 07 Nights/08 Days trip aims to highlight the places and destinations connected with the life of B. R. Ambedkar. Visit prominent places associated with the life of Baba Saheb like New Delhi, Mhow,Nagpur and sacred Buddhist sites like Sanchi, Sarnath, Gaya, Rajgir and Nalanda in the tour itinerary.

Visit of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial at New Delhi will be a key attraction covered in the tour.
Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train having ten 3AC class coaches will accommodate a total no. of 600 tourists.
Tourists will have options to board/ de-board the train at Delhi, Mathura Jn, and Agra Cantt stations during their journey.

Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yatra” Special tour by Bharat Gaurav Tourist train” flagged off from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station today o­n its auspicious tour by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region jointly. , Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway, Smt. Rajni Hasija, CMD, IRCTC, Sh.Dimpy Garg, DRM/Delhi Division, and other senior officials were also present o­n the occasion.

Speaking o­n the occasion Dr. Virendra Kumar highlighted the achievements of Baba Saheb Ambedkar towards society and their contribution for the rights of the socially backward classes. He appreciated the Railways for running this Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yatra train while Shri Reddy said that tourists shall visit the prominent places associated with the life of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar & the Buddhist heritage in 08 days journey for a holistic experience and this train is truly fulfilling the Dekho Apna Desh initiative of India.

The proposed 07 nights and 08 days Bharat Gaurav Tourist train after departure from Delhi, o­n its first halt will arrive at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) in Madhya Pradesh, the birthplace of Baba Saheb (Bhim Janam Bhoomi). Then the train moves to Nagpur railway station where tourists proceed to visit Deekshabhoomi, a consecrated monument of Navayana Buddhism. The train departs from Nagpur for Sanchi. The sightseeing of Sanchi includes visits to the eponymous stupa and other Buddhist sites. Sanchi is followed by Varanasi as the next destination along with a visit to Sarnath & Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Gaya is the next and final destination where the tourists will be taken to the holy site of Bodhgaya to visit the famous Mahabodhi Temple and other monasteries. Rajgir and Nalanda, the other important Buddhist sites, would also be covered by roads. The tour will finally terminate in New Delhi.

Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, fondly referred to as “Baba Saheb”, was the main architect of the Indian Constitution. Besides, he was also an eminent jurist, political activist, anthropologist, author, orator, historian, writer, economist, and scholar. Ambedkar, throughout his life, fought to eradicate social evils like untouchability and stood up for the rights of the socially backward classes. The tour, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yatra, designed by Indian Railways, aims to highlight the places and destinations connected with the life of Ambedkar.

The ” Baba Saheb Ambedkar Yatra” tourist train having ten AC-3Tier coaches’ accommodation coaches will accommodate a total number of 600 tourists. This tourist train will have the facility of a Pantry Coach which will serve vegetarian food to the tourist. Besides travel insurance for the passengers and security o­n the train, tourists can board/ de-board at Delhi, Mathura Jn, and Agra stations.

The Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train launch is in line with the Government of India initiative “ Dekho Apna Desh” to promote domestic tourism. Starting from a price range of Rs. 21,650 /- per person, the tourist train will be an all-inclusive tour package covering a train journey in 3AC, a night stay at hotels, and all meals (vegetarian o­nly). All transfers & sightseeing in buses, services of guide and travel insurance, etc. All necessary health precautionary measures will be taken care of and railways will make efforts to provide a safe and memorable experience to the guests.

Bharat Nepal Ashtha Yatra’ Bharat Gaurav 3AC Tourist Train flagged off on 31.03.2023 from Jalandhar city junction, Punjab.

Puri – Gangasagar Bhavya Kashi Yatra

Starting the journey from Indore, the yatra will cover six divine destinations in a tour of 9 nights and 10 days (from 16th to 25th May, 2023). The tour package will cost Rs.17,600/- per person. The Yatris in the train will get a unique opportunity to visit Puri, Konark, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Deoghar, Varanasi, and Ayodhya. To benefit all the rail passengers, boarding (& deboarding at the end of the journey) has been given at 7 important stations across the state of Madhya Pradesh. The first stop of this train is Puri where pilgrims will visit the Jagannath Puri Temple. Pilgrims will next visit the famous Konark Temple and head to Bhubaneswar to visit the Lingaraj Temple. The Yatris will then proceed to Kolkata for an overnight stay at Gangasagar and visit the Kali Mandir the next day. The next stop will be at Jaisidih station to visit Baba Baidyanath Dham Jyotirlinga Temple in Deoghar. Yatris will also get to visit the sacred city of Varanasi & visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and aarti at Ganga Ghat. In the last leg of the yatra, the pilgrims will proceed to Ayodhya and visit the Shri Ram Janam Bhumi Temple.

Sri Rameshwaram Tirupati Dakshin Darshan Yatra

The yatra will start from Indore and will cover five divine destinations in a tour of 9 nights and 10 days (from 29th May to 7th June, 2023). The tour package will cost Rs.18,700/- per person. The Yatris in the train will get a unique opportunity to visit Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram. To benefit all the rail passengers, boarding (& deboarding at the end of the journey) has been given at 8 important stations across the state of Madhya Pradesh. The first divine stop of this holy journey will be at Renigunta station to visit Tirupati Balaji Temple. The yatra will then proceed to visit the Padmavati Temple. The next day, pilgrims will arrive at Madurai railway station to reach Rameshwaram and visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple. The yatris will then proceed to Meenakshi Temple and reach Kanyakumari station the next day. The yatris will visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Gandhi Mandapam and Kanyakumari Temple. At last, the yatris will proceed to Thiruvananthapuram station and visit Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

Southern Railway announced that IRCTC/South Zone has launched an exclusive Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, for the tourists which consists of 04- Three Tier AC coaches, 07- Sleeper Coaches, 01- pantry car, 02- power car with a total of 14 coaches. In the maiden run of Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, IRCTC, South Zone/Chennai had launched a tour in the name of –“Punya Teerth Yathirai”, which is detailed below.

Indian Railways to introduce Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train under ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ Scheme

Indian Railway announced via press release on 05.02.2023 that –

  • “Garvi Gujarat” tour will depart on 28th Feb from Delhi Safdarjung Station
  • This train Tour has been designed on the lines of the “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” scheme of Govt. of India to showcase the heritage of vibrant Gujarat.
  • State of Art Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train with 1st AC & 2nd AC Class will be operated for 8 days all inclusive tour.
  • Tourist Train consists of 4 first AC coaches, 2 second AC Coaches, one well equipped pantry car and two rail restaurants. It can accommodate 156 tourists onboard.
  • Visit of prominent pilgrimage and heritage sites of Gujarat i.e. Statue of Unity, Champaner, Somnath, Dwarka, Nageshwar, Beyt Dwarka, Ahmedabad, Modhera & Patan will be the major attractions in the itinerary.
  • Tourists can also board/deboard at Gurugram, Rewari, Ringas, Phullera & Ajmer Railway Stations on this tourist train.

  • The train will be operated by Railways’ PSU- IRCTC
  • State of Art Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train with 1st AC & 2nd AC Class will start from Delhi on 17th February 2023 for 7 days all inclusive tour.
  • Visit of pilgrimage and heritage sites at Ayodhya and Janakpur dham (Nepal) along with Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Varanasi and Prayag will be the major attraction in the itinerary.
  • Tourist Train consists of 4 first AC coaches, 2 second AC Coaches, one well equipped pantry car and two rail restaurants. It can accommodate 156 tourists onboard.

Madurai – Sainagar Shirdi 8th trip of Bharat Gaurav trains

The 8th trip of Bharat Gaurav trains in Southern Railway will be run from Madurai to Sainagar Shirdi and back. The round trip service will be organised by M/s. Travel Times, a registered service provider from Madurai to Sainagar Shirdi via Pandharpur and return trip to Madurai (Kudal Nagar) via Mantralayalam Road.

Other features of the train service are:

Hon’ble PM will flag off Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan Train No. 06553 KSR Bengaluru – Banaras Bharat Gaurav Darshan yatra train at 10:33 AM o­n 11th November 2022 which is scheduled to arrive at Banaras at 04:00 PM o­n 13 November 2022.

The Government of Karnataka has accorded in-principle approval to operate the first Bharat Gaurav train of Karnataka.

Bharat Gaurav Trains : Salient Feature

Indian Railways have issued the ‘Bharat Gaurav Trains’ policy on 23.11.2021 with an objective to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and magnificent historical places through theme based tourist circuit trains. The salient features of this policy are as follows:

  • Registration and placement of rake request by service providers in online portal.
  • Rake security deposit of ₹ 1 Crore per rake.
  • Individuals, Partnership firm, company, Society, Trust, Joint ventures and consortium are eligible.
  • A rake comprising a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 20 coaches.
  • Applicable charges viz. Right to Use charges, Haulage charges, stabling charges notified and to be paid by service provider.
  • Theme based refurbishments/minor modifications permitted.
  • Indian Railways to retain ownership of the coaches and provide operational assistance including coach maintenance and stabling facilities.
  • Service provider to have full freedom to decide itinerary, themes, package cost.
  • Service provider to offer a comprehensive package with facility of rail transportation, accommodation, meals, local road transport, sightseeing etc.
  • Branding and advertisement rights are permitted.

No fund is envisaged to be allocated for Bharat Gaurav Trains scheme as this is based on revenue generating model. As per this policy, service providers have full flexibility to decide the themes/itineraries for operation of Bharat Gaurav trains. Running of Bharat Gaurav Trains by service providers over Indian Railways including the State of Tamil Nadu is a continuous process and any additional trips would depend on the market demand and commercial viability.

Bharat Gaurav Trains Policy- Induction of LHB Coaches and Review of Applicable Charges

  • Only LHB coaches will be allotted under the Bharat Gaurav Trains policy. Railways reserve the right to allot the coaches of any age and applicable Right to Use charges per coach per year.
  • It has been decided not to levy the overhead component in the Fixed and Variable Haulage Charges. The applicable fixed and variable haulage charges have been revised.
  • The revised haulage charges shall be applicable from the date of issue of this policy. There will be no refund/adjustment of already paid haulage charges.
  • The existing service providers, who have already been allotted ICF rakes under the framework of Bharat Gaurav Trains Policy issued vide CC No. 14/2021, shall be given an option to switch over to LHB rakes under this policy for remaining period of agreement on the applicable charges and other conditions notified under this policy. Should the service provider opt to continue with already allotted ICF rakes, the revised charges shall be applicable with prospective effect.
  • To ensure that Service Providers fîx the package costs which is commensurate with the services being offered, Service Provider shall print on the package costs invoice that “IR is providing approximately 33% concession for promotion of rail tourism under Bharat Gaurav Trains Scheme”
  • The existing luxury tourist trains shall continue to be operated on the applicable charges (RU, Fixed and Variable Haulage Charges) already notified separately. As such, charges notified under this policy shall not apply on the luxury tourist trains.

Bharat Gaurav Trains : Scope

  • Service Provider would be free to decide theme like Guru Kripa trains for covering important places of Sikh culture, Ramayana trains for places connected with Lord Shri Ram etc.
  • Service Provider to offer all inclusive package to tourist including rail travel, hotel accommodation, sightseeing arrangement, visit to historical/heritage sites, tour guides etc.
  • Full flexibility to decide package cost based on level of services being offered.
  • Choice of coachessuiting the clientele,different segments like luxury, budget etc.
  • Free to design/furnish interior of the coaches based on the theme.
  • Branding and advertisement permitted both inside and outside of train.
  • Train composition will be of 14 to 20 coaches including 2 SLRs(Guard Vans).

Bharat Gaurav Trains : Registration Process

  • Easy one step transparent online registration process. Registration fee of Rs 1 (One) Lakh only.
  • Allotment of coaches to all eligible applicants subject to availability. Priority to be based on the Rake Security Deposit Time and Date. Rake Security Deposit of Rs 1 (one) Crore per rake.
  • Individual, Partnership Firm, Company, Society, trust, JV/Consortium (Unincorporated/Incorporated) are eligible.
  • Right to Use charges and Haulage charges notified in the policy for Service Provider to work out his business model.
  • Right to Use Period: 2-10 years.

For using Bharat Gaurav Trains, a prospective service provider has to first to create username and password for getting access to the Bharat Gaurav trains portal (https://bharatgauravtrains.indianrailways.gov.in/).
