Jan Aushadhi Kendras at Railway Stations
Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizer decide to cooperate with Ministry of Railway to open the medical outlet at Railway stations premises. The railways will allow its premises to be used for opening Jan Aushadhi Kendras at Railway Stations across the country to make cheap medicine available to the common man under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan
Aushadhi Pariyojana, a press release of Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers announced.
The Jan Aushadhi campaign is launched by the government to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special outlets, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
The railways will sign an agreement with the Department of Pharmaceuticals for setting up outlets on rail premises. Shri Prabhu informed the media persons that an in-principle decision to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras at Railway Stations and other Railway establishments has been taken during discussions. Railways being the largest employer in India, the amalgamation of efforts between the two Ministries for the percolation of generic drugs would increase their accessibility to the common man manifold, Shri Prabhu added. Minister for Chemical and Fertilizers decided to utilize the vast Railway infrastructure to increase Accessibility of Affordable, Quality Generic Drugs for the common man.
Currently over 1600 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened in over 450 districts across India under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) and all the drugs available at these stores meet the WHO GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) benchmarks. Ministry also appointed senior officers of the two Ministries to work out the modalities and the strategy for roll out of the plan in detail.
