Northern Railway published the details about the inauguration of newly constructed Chandigarh – Ludhiana new Broad Gauge Rail line and the starting of the new Super fast Express train between Chandiragh and Amritsar via New Morinda – Sanehwal.The inauguration of New Broad Gauge Rail Line and Super fast Express train happened on 19-04-2013 by Indian Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.


Details of New Broad Gauge Rail Line
The total length of Chandigarh – Ludhiana new line is 112 Km. The Railway line from Chandigarh to New Morinda stations was opened for traffic in Sep’2006 in Phase-I. The Phase-II, which involved construction of third line from Sanehwal to Ludhianawas opened for traffic in Nov’2012. Finally, the final phase of this line from New Morinda to Sanehwal (52Km) has been opened for traffic. This section (i.e. final phase) consists of about 52 km. long track, 129 minor and road under bridges and four major bridges. Three new stations are also provided in this section i.e. Khamanon, Samrala and Lall Kalan.

Details of New Trains
Train No.12241/12242 Chandigarh- Amritsar Super fast Express (Via New Morinda-Sanehwal) with revised timings on newly constructed  route. The 12241 Chandigarh- Amritsar Super fast Express Train (Via New Morinda-Sanehwal) will depart from Chandigarh at 05.30 p.m. instead of 06.50 p.m. to reach Amritsarat 09.10 p.m. instead of 11.15 p.m. the same day. In the return direction, the 12242 Amritsar- Chandigarh Superfast Express Train (Via New Morinda-Sanehwal) will depart from Amritsar at 05.20 a.m. to reach Chandigarh at 09.05 a.m. instead of 09.45 a.m. the same day. The train will stop at Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar City and Beasstations enroute in both the directions. With the completion of the Chandigarh – Ludhiananew line, the travel time will be reduced by 45 minutes.
